Cat Cay Guest House

The project

An unexpected call, and a weekend flight to the Bahamas.

The client needed to extend an existing house on Cat Cay with a guest house, and the extension could not look added on. Both buildings had to read as one property.

We flew out to see it. Over that weekend we went through the routes, the views and the levels, and the way the property is actually lived in, with the existing house in front of us.

The concept came from the Bahamas themselves: deep eaves, pitched roofs, long terraces. Many of the decisions were made right there, and the rest on the flight home, before we took it to the architecture and engineering teams.
